Juicing is an Excellent Way to Control Blood Pressure

Losing weight is one of the best ways to lower blood pressure. However, people that need to lower their blood pressure have a hard time changing their eating habits enough to eat the recommended amounts of fruits and veggies.

Juicing makes it possible for people to get the right amount of fruits and vegetables. Juicing also allows the nutrients to be absorbed by the body easily. Juicy is the perfect way to get more nutrients like Vitamin C and potassium at each meal. These nutrients are important when it comes to controlling hypertension.

To lower your blood pressure and enjoy all the benefits of juicing, you will need a high quality juicer. If juicing is new to you, resist the attempt to buy a cheap juicer. It will likely break down quickly and you’ll end up having to buy another one. Look for a juicer with at least a 5 year warranty. Choose a juicer that can handle all types of fruits and vegetables, not just citrus fruits. Buy a juicer that you don’t mind keeping on your kitchen counter. If you have to put the juicer away after every use, you won’t use it very often.

Next, buy plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. Keep in mind that if you use good quality raw materials, you will end up with quality juice. Even though you might start juicing to lower your blood pressure, the juice doesn’t have to taste like medicine. Organic produce makes great tasting juice.

To ease into the juicing lifestyle, start with something simple like a glass of citrus juice. Citrus is packed with Vitamin C and studies have been conducted that show that Vitamin C supplements effectively reduce systolic blood pressure. You can lower your blood pressure by drink a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice with every meal. Any citrus fruit will accomplish the same effect, but grapefruit juice interferes with some cholesterol medication. If you take cholesterol lowering medication, check with your physician before juicing grapefruits.

There’s a good reason to juice celery and carrots as well. Celery contains phyhalides that are known to reduce blood pressure. Celery is also an excellent source of magnesium, calcium, and potassium, each of which can help lower blood pressure. Carrots are a great source of vitamin A and many other nutrients, including magnesium and potassium.

Next, try beet juice. Studies have been conducted that show that beet juice lowers blood pressure within 60 minutes of drinking it. It also keeps blood pressure down for 24 hours after drinking it. Drinking beet juice daily is an excellent way to control blood pressure. Because beet juice is known to temporarily paralyze vocal chords, mix 1-2 ounces of pure beet juice with at least 6 ounces of apple or vegetable juice.

Don’t stop eating fruits and vegetables. Even if you consume the pulp after juicing, you will still lose part of the fiber the fruits and vegetables contain. Be careful when you start juicing that you don’t consume too many calories. Because juice won’t fill you up like the actual produce does, it’s easy to get too many calories. You also have to make sure you don’t get too many nutrients. While juicing is a great way to supplement your diet, it just can’t take the place of actually eating the fruits and veggies.
