Cranberry Juice Battles Infections

Recently released research that was printed in the professional journal “Molecular Nutrition and Food Research” has shown more information about how cranberry juice goes to work within the molecules in the human body to fight urinary tract infections. The E coli bacteria is often responsible for some of the most painful and invasive urinary tract infections, and it is now clear that the actions of E coli can be stopped, so infection can be prevented.

The famed research institution, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was responsible for the scientific study which revealed that the simple cranberry, when ingested in juice form. can halt the E coli bacteria which attaches to the cells in the body via tiny hooks known as fimbriae. The juice contains a specific type of molecule which makes the fimbriae to be repelled, which stops the attachment to the body’s urinary tract cells.

The findings of the research included the news that E coli bacteria in its stronger forms is simply too powerful to be expelled from the urinary tract via urine flow. However, the presence of cranberry juice changes this and allows a significant amount of the bacteria to be removed from the human body.

While it was previously known that cranberries and their juice carry the power to prevent urinary tract infections, this new information has revealed more specifics about the way that cranberries are able to do this.

According to Terri Camesano, WPI professor of chemical engineering, the study utilized already prepared cranberry juice (similar to what can be purchased at a local grocery store), but it is quite possible that pure cranberry juice (or freshly squeezed where possible) may provide even more significant benefits.

Cranberry juice is known for providing a number of anti-aging qualities, as well as for helping to maintain a healthy urinary tract system. Cranberry juice can even be an aid in digestion and help avoid constipation.

Cranberry extract may be the ideal way to get the benefits of cranberries, but even adding a single ounce of the best cranberry juice (Just Cranberry is considered top quality) to a full glass of water can provide major cranberry benefits.
